As prescribed by 159th_Viper on the old http://www.the159th.com:

8.1. R-73 and R-60 Weapons Delivery

8.1.1. Introduction to and Familiarization of Lock and Launch procedures pertaining to the Aphid and Archer missiles.

Image

R-73: Archer

R-60: Aphid

*Air-to-Air Missiles for Protection Only: Do Not Tango with a Fast-Jet and expect your Paint-Work to remain Unscratched*

Deployment

If the situation dictates that an Airborne Threat has to be engaged, enter Air-to-Air Mode (2).

Longitudinal Mode is activated.

Maneuvre the Aircraft so that the centre of the HUD Aircraft symbol is over the Target.

Missile Seeker will attempt to obtain Lock.

*Note that the Missile Seeker has a 2 Degree only Scan Zone along the Aircrafts Longitudinal Axis*

Lock Range dependant on Target Craft's I/R Signature.

Once Missile Seeker has obtained Lock, "LA" will appear in the HUD as well as a Lock Audio Signal. Ordinance can now be Deployed.

*Note however that once LA obtained and Audio Lock SIgnal is received only means that Target has been Locked - Does not mean that Target is in Range*

Launching too early will result in the Missile not having enough Energy to Intercept the Target.

Fire only when Target is clearly visible.

Once Launched the Missile is Fire-and Forget and requires no additional support from the Launch Craft.

Communicate with relevant Brevity Codes situation of Attack Run to Flight Lead with Confirmed Kill and Status upon Egress.

8.1.2. Deployment of said missiles to rotate between a Neutral/Hostile environment.

Deployment as above.

Specific Practical aspects to be Canvassed during Practical Training Missions.

8.1.3. Advanced - Tactics/Formation Air to Air Missile Deployment.

Deployment as above with regard to Lead/Wingman Weapons Deployment in a Hostile Multi-Threat Environment.

Practical aspects to be covered in the relevant section Training Mission.

8.2. Internal Gun and Gun-Pods application against Air
Targets.

Image

8.2.1. Deployment of the internal gun and gun-pods against Airborne threats.

Visually Identify Target.

Select Air-to-Air Mode (2 or 3).

Select Internal Gun and/or Gunpods (C).

Confirm Gun Mode entered by representation of Funnel on the HUD.

Note that the Funnel represents the Shell's Flight Trajectory vs Target Wingspan (Indicated in Upper Portion of HUD).

Maneuvre the Aircraft to put the Target inside the Funnel with the Target's Wingtips touching the Funnel Edges.

Once parameters as above are satisfied, Fire Cannon and/or Gunpods.

Factors to Consider:

*Engage Targets preferably from Below or Behind*

*Effective Engagement generally below 800m seperation - preferable to see the Whites of the Hog-Drivers' Eyes prior to Pulling the Trigger*

*Target Base in metres can be set with [Alt +] and [Alt -] keys*

8.2.2. Deployment to rotate between a Neutral/Hostile environment.

Specific Practical aspects to be Canvassed during Practical Training Missions.

8.2.3. Advanced - Tactics/Formation Gun/Pod Deployment in an Air to Air Environment.

Deployment as above with regard to Lead/Wingman Weapons Deployment in a Hostile Multi-Threat Environment.

Practical aspects to be covered in the relevant section Training Mission.
