Rockets as above are not equipped with a Guidance System and as such are effectively "Point-and-Shoot" Deployment weapons.

To be employed against non-armour/slightly armoured targets once HZ has been Sanitized.

Best employed against Columns/Static Targets in close proximity to each other.

*Ensure that Target Area has been Sanitized of ALL Air Defence Threats PRIOR to Engaging Targets/Overflying the Target Zone*

Upon Flight Lead Authorization to Engage Target, select Air to Ground mode (7).

Select type of Rockets (Use the change weapon -D).

Line up on target, deploy Airbrake and Flaps One Down and adopt a 15-20 degree dive and Throttle to Idle.

Identify Target and place the Rocket Strafing Pipper on the Target.

Due to the limited range of Rockets and No Guidance, be certain to maintain speed of 400-450km/h to enable time for Weapons Release and subsequent pulling out of the Dive.

Once parameters of Range, Altitude and Velocity are met, Launch Authorization will be obtained. Keystroke "Space" to release requisite Number of Ordinance.

Throttle to Full, Gain Altitude, Retract Airbrake and Flaps Up, Break 180 degrees and extend.

Confirm Kills upon egress. Re-Engage if Necessary.

6.5.2. Deployment to rotate between a Neutral/Hostile environment.

Specific Practical aspects to be Canvassed during Practical Training Missions.

6.5.3. Consequent evasive maneuvering and extension subsequent to Weapons Release.

As stated above: In addition, communicate with relevant Brevity Codes situation of Attack Run to Flight Lead with Confirmed Kills and Status upon Egress.

6.5.4. Advanced - Tactics/Formation Rocket Deployment.

Deployment as above with regard to Lead/Wingman Weapons Deployment in a Hostile Multi-Threat Environment.

Practical aspects to be covered in the relevant section Training Mission.

6.6. Application of Internal Cannon and Gun-Pods.

6.6.1.- 6.6.2. Parameters and Deployment of Gsh-301 30mm Internal Cannon and SPPU-22-1 Gun Pods.

Image Image

To be employed against non-armour/slightly armoured targets once HZ has been Sanitized.

Best employed against Columns/Static Targets in close proximity to each other.

*Ensure that Target Area has been Sanitized of ALL Air Defence Threats PRIOR to Engaging Targets/Overflying the Target Zone*

Image

*Ensure thorough understanding of Briefing and consequent Mission Objectives and set the Cannon/Gunpod Selector Cycle switch and the Gunpod Mode switch Prior to Engagement of Target whilst on Ingress*

For all Cannon modes, you can limit the length of the burst by using the L/H cut off switch (Shift C) - up is limited to 25 rounds, down no limit.

To use the internal cannon or the SPPU-22-1 Gun pods, cycle the Cannon/Gunpod Selector Cycle switch (Cntrl Space).

You have a choice of Пo.1 (Internal gun only), Пo.2 (a pair of Gun pods), Пo.4 (All gun pods) and BCE (All). BCE is a bore sighted mode, allowing no movement of gun pod barrels.

You have a choice of how you aim the cannons, the Gunpod Mode switch (V) also changes the cannon setting selector.

This gives you 3 choices; 0- guns bore sighted, or ФИКС (fixed) – gun pod barrels depressed and fixed for a strafing pass, and ПРОГР (prog) - for the programmed mode.

0 mode is simply a matter of selecting how many guns you wish to fire in a simple aim and fire pass.

6.6.3. Said Deployment in:

Zero Depression Mode

Upon Flight Lead Authorization to Engage Target, select Air to Ground mode (7).

Select Cannon Mode (C) and Confirm desired Gunpod/Cannon settings as per WCS.

A Cannon Strafing Pipper will appear under the Aircraft Datum.

Line up on target, deploy Airbrake and Flaps One Down and adopt a Shallow to 15-20 degree dive depending on circumstances and Throttle to Idle.

Identify Target and place the Cannon Strafing Pipper on the Target.

Due to the limited range and accuracy of Cannon/Gunpod Fire, be certain to maintain speed of 400-450km/h to enable time for Accurate Strafing and subsequent pulling out of the Dive.

Once parameters of Range, Altitude and Velocity are met, Launch Authorization will be obtained. Keystroke "Space" to release requisite amount of Cannon Fire. Short Bursts are usually more effective than prolonged Fire.

*Whilst Firing, use Rudder Input to cover larger area with Shells. However be aware that any deviation in Bank Angle can lead to significant Shell Deviation*

Throttle to Full, Gain Altitude, Retract Airbrake and Flaps Up, Break 180 degrees and extend.

Confirm Kills upon egress. Re-Engage if Necessary.

Fixed Depression Mode

Upon Flight Lead Authorization to Engage Target, select Air to Ground mode (7).

Select Cannon Mode (C) and Confirm desired Gunpod/Cannon settings as per WCS.

Further Confirm that Mode switch set to "Fixed" and desired Gunpod Quantity selector switch is correct.

Use the Alt-- and Alt-+ keys to set the Gunpod Depression Angle by moving the Cannon Strafing Pipper along the Vertical Axis on the HUD.

Align the Flight Path with the Target and maintain Level Flight at about 500 - 1000m Altitude.

When the Cannon Strafing Pipper on the HUD overlays the Target, press the Fire Button (Space). Short Bursts are usually more effective than prolonged Fire.

Due to the limited range and accuracy of Cannon/Gunpod Fire, be certain to maintain speed of 400-450km/h to enable time for Accurate Strafing.

Break 180 degrees and extend. Confirm Kills upon egress. Re-Engage if Necessary.

Programmed Mode

Turn on the Laser-RangeFinder (Shift-O) and toggle the Mode Switch to "Prog" mode.

Place the Cannon Strafing Pipper on the Target. Once parameters of Range, Altitude and Velocity are met, Launch Authorization will be obtained. Keystroke "Space" to release requisite amount of Cannon Fire.

Gunpod Barrel Deviation will occur Automatically to follow point-of-Impact as per Cannon Strafing Pipper.

Avoid Pitch, Roll and Yaw changes for better, sustained accuracy.

Turn Off Laser-Rangefinder, Break 180 degrees and extend. Confirm Kills upon egress. Re-Engage if Necessary.

6.6.4. Consequent evasive maneuvering and extension subsequent to Weapons Release.

As stated above: In addition, communicate with relevant Brevity Codes situation of Attack Run to Flight Lead with Confirmed Kills and Status upon Egress.

6.6.5. Advanced - Tactics/Formation Gun/Pod Deployment.

Deployment as above with regard to Lead/Wingman Weapons Deployment in a Hostile Multi-Threat Environment.

Practical aspects to be covered in the relevant section Training Mission.

*When using the Cannon(s), as with all ordnance, keep your aircraft as steady as possible on approach. This improves accuracy a great deal. If you need to readjust your aim, do so very slowly so as not to make your aircraft unsettled, and thus more likely to miss the target.*
