Section 6

6.1. Laser-Designation and Beam-Riding Vikhrs Missile Deployment.

6.1.1. Introduction to and Deployment parameters of AT-9 Anti-Tank Missiles and consequent
deployment thereof in a non-hostile environment.

Image Image

Vikhrs are a Laser beam-riding missile and consequently care must be taken to set up the correct approach to Target:

Once Target has been visually acquired switch on Shkval TV Targeting System (O).

Ground - Stabilize the sensor in the vicinity of the target (TAB) and slew the scan zone centre over the Target.

Increase or Decrease the sensor magnification (= - ) as circumstances require.

Be sure to set the size of the Target Base correctly (Ctrl = or Ctrl -).

Personell and Minor Structures: 5m
Humvee/Avenger Vehicles: 8m
Cars and Armoured Vehicles: 10m
Tactical Aircraft and Helo's: 20m
Transport and Strategic Aircraft: 30m
Buildings: 20-60m
Ships: 60m

Shkval will automatically Lock onto nearest object within the acquisition frame that has dimensions comparable to the set target size.

Confirm Lock by the “AC” message displayed in the T.V. Monitor (Auto-Tracking).

Speed not to exceed 450-500km/h.

*ENSURE THAT YOU ARE STILL BEYOND LAUNCH RANGE ONCE ABOVE STEPS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED AND THAT YOUR ALTITUDE IS 2000M+AGL

IF NOT, BREAK 180 DEGREES, EXTEND AND RE-ENGAGE TARGET AS ABOVE*

Upon Maximum Launch Range enter Shallow 5 degree dive with Nose to Target, Deploy Airbrake and Flaps One Down.

Activate Laser RangeFinder (Shift-O) (LA appears on T.V. Monitor and HUD), and Release Weapon (Space).

Hold attitude until Missile Impact and Confirm Kill.

Disengage Laser-Rangefinder (Shift-O)

Retract Airbrake and Flaps Up.

Break 180 degrees and Extend.

Ensure Sufficient time given for Laser-Rangefinder to Cool.

Re-Engage if necessary.

Keep Altitude at all times above 1000m AGL

6.1.2. Deployment thereof in a Hostile Environment and attendant deployment procedures.

Deployment as indicated above. Further factors to be taken into consideration in a Combat Environment are the Following:

Short-Range SEAD a priority when entering the Target Area. Neutralization of I/R SAM Systems and AAA of Vital Importance.

Fire ONE missile only per target, except in the case of Heavy Armour (Battle Tanks)

Armour - Double-Tap Two AT-9’s per Target.

Naval Targets: Deploy FOUR AT-9’s at LA per Target.

6.1.3. Deployment thereof using the “Ripple-Fire “ technique.

To be employed against non-armour targets once HZ has been Sanitized.

Best employed against Columns/Static Targets in close proximity to each other.

Deployment as 6.1.1.- following Launch of first missile, wait approx 6-8 seconds and Launch another Missile and so on, taking care to launch no more than 3-4 missiles.

Immidiately upon impact of first Missile, slew sensor to next target prior to arrival of beam-riding missile. Await Impact and repeat procedure until all missiles Have impacted.

Confirm Kills.

Disengage Laser-Rangefinder (Shift-O)

Retract Airbrake and Flaps Up.

Break 180 degrees and Extend.

Ensure Sufficient time given for Laser-Rangefinder to Cool.

Re-Engage if necessary.

Keep Altitude at all times above 1000m AGL

6.1.4. Consequent evasive maneuvering and extension subsequent to Weapons Release.

Dependant on the Circumstances, Programmed dispersal of Chaff and Flares to be Undertaken whilst engaged/on attack Run (Shift - Q).

Imperative that the Target Zone/HZ NOT BE OVERFLOWN when engaged in Vikhrs Deployment and 1000m AGL is maintained at all times.

Practical aspects to be covered in the relevant section Training Mission.

6.1.5. Advanced - Tactics/Formation Vikhrs Deployment.

Deployment as above with regard to Lead/Wingman Weapons Deployment in a Hostile Multi-Threat Environment.

Practical aspects to be covered in the relevant section Training Mission.

**DO NOT OVERFLY THE HZ**

6.2. Unguided Low-Drag Bomb delivery.

6.2.1. Introduction to Parameters and Deployment of inter-alia:

FAB-100
FAB-250
FAB-500

Image Image Image

Above Bombs have Low Drag Indexes and Flat Trajectories - allows release of Bombs at Target whilst Target still visible.

Effective against Ground Objects, Equipment and Defensive Installations.

*Ensure thorough understanding of Briefing and consequent Mission Objectives and set Salvo Quantity and Delay Prior to Engagement of Target whilst on Ingress*

Select quantity required (Use the R/H salvo quantity knob –Cntrl & space). You can drop ordnance in either; Пo1 (singly), Пo2 (in pairs), Пo4 (in Fours), BCE (all available).

You have control over whether you drop all your bombs together, or with a time delay to drop them in a string. To do this; select delivery interval using the L/H salvo/timer knob (V).

Options are; ЗАЛП (Salvo- all released as one) or 0.1 – 0.2 – 0.3 – 0.4 (10th Seconds) or СЕРИЯ КМГУ-МБД (KMGU Cluster/MER) mode; this will spread the cluster munitions in a pre-determined pattern.

6.2.2. Deployment to rotate between a Neutral/Hostile environment.

Specific Practical aspects to be Canvassed during Practical Training Missions.

*Ensure that Target Area has been Sanitized of ALL Air Defence Threats PRIOR to Engaging Targets/Overflying the Target Zone*

6.2.3. Deployment with regard to CCIP and CCRP Bombs Release.

CCIP

Upon Flight Lead Authorization to Engage Target, select Air to Ground mode (7).

Select type of bomb (Use the change weapon -D).

With bombs, you are given just one symbol on the HUD to show that bombs are selected; this is the symbol - АБ. Ensure you are Familiar with the Ordinance on each specific Pylon so as to ensure that the correct Ordinance is selected.

Line up on target, deploy Airbrake and Flaps One Down and adopt a 15-20 degree dive.

Ensure Altitude 2000m+. Identify Target and place the CCIP Pipper on the Target.

Take care to line the Bomb Fall Line up with the Intended Target/Convoy.

Once parameters of Range, Altitude and Velocity are met, Launch Authorization will be obtained. Keystroke "Space" to release requisite Number of Ordinance.

Retract Airbrake and Flaps Up, Break 180 degrees and extend.

Confirm Kills upon egress. Re-Engage if Necessary.

CCRP

Upon Flight Lead Authorization to Engage Target, select Air to Ground mode (7).

Select type of bomb (Use the change weapon -D).

With bombs, you are given just one symbol on the HUD to show that bombs are selected; this is the symbol - АБ. Ensure you are Familiar with the Ordinance on each specific Pylon so as to ensure that the correct Ordinance is selected.

Ensure Altitude AGL 1500 - 2000m. Identify Target and Place the CCRP Pipper on the intended target and Hold the Weapons Release Button (Space).

WCS will initiate Release Point Calculation and the designation point will be represented by a Diamond in the HUD.

Fly the Aircraft so that the Datum Keel is centered in the Director Circle.

Imperative that No Changes in Bank and Yaw take place till Weapons Release. Successful Automatic Release dependant on strictly following the Flight Path with the Correct G-Loading.

Tip of Datum Keel must be centered in the Directors Circle

Time Scale Activates 10 sec from Release. When Time reaches Zero, Bombs Automatically Released. After Bombs release, release Weapons Release Button.

Break 180 degrees and extend.

Confirm Kills upon egress. Re-Engage if Necessary.

*If dropping any type of ordnance on a moving convoy, take account of its direction and speed, also its spacing. You will need to adjust the number of weapons used and the interval between drops to straddle the target. As a guide, set the timer to 0.2sec for a run at a speed of 500Kmh and at 0.3sec for a slower speed of around 400Kmh.*

6.2.4. Consequent evasive maneuvering and extension subsequent to Weapons Release.

As stated above: In addition, communicate with relevant Brevity Codes situation of Attack Run to Flight Lead with Confirmed Kills and Status upon Egress.

6.2.5. Advanced - Tactics/Formation Low-Drag Bomb Deployment.

Above Bombs have an Aerodynamic High Drag Index and a consequent curved Trajectory that significantly complicates targeting of Visible Targets.

Due to the Strongly Curved Trajectory, often the case that the Impact Point is below the visible edge of the HUD at almost any Angle of Dive.

As a consequence, the CCIP Piper cannot be timeously placed on the Target and Hence the CCRP method of Bomb release is used.

Effective against Ground Objects, Equipment and Defensive Installations, Bridges, Fortified Structures and Command Centres.

*Ensure thorough understanding of Briefing and consequent Mission Objectives and set Salvo Quantity and Delay Prior to Engagement of Target whilst on Ingress*

Break 180 degrees and extend.

Confirm Kills upon egress. Re-Engage if Necessary.

*For KMGU cluster bombs (not RBK type), aim and drop these weapons early – they require time for the revolving doors on the canisters to open, and will over-shoot the target if you do not allow for this.*

*If dropping any type of ordnance on a moving convoy, take account of its direction and speed, also its spacing. You will need to adjust the number of weapons used and the interval between drops to straddle the target.
