The 159th Guards Aviation Regiment was originally formed shortly after LOMAC 1.0 release and took on the role of a ship borne aviation fighter regiment flying operations from the Admiral Kuznetsov carrier. We have been growing and evolving ever since. |
As Eagle Dynamics has progressed and we now find ourselves using DCS with a wide variety of aircraft from all over the world, our Soviet/Russian heritage has become awkward to maintain as many here love to get familiar with the latest releases from ED and their partners. |

We have no desire to lose the squad heritage but recognise the need to adapt, and so although we will retain the title and attitude of the existing squad, we are now very flexible in what we fly. Thus, although most here learned to fly with the original aircraft and are familiar with them, we are open to recruitment from any source providing that the aircraft are fairly recent and fit into a modern multi-country ops type of scenario. We will likely have to evolve as the sim evolves, time will tell! |
The 159th currently sees us flying everything from the older Russian fleet through to most aircraft available now to all DCS users -particulary the F/A-18, F-14 and AV8b. Most missions see us coordinating all available assets in trying to complete operations successfully. |
When not being used for private squad activities, we run a dedicated server for public use and also provide a Team Speak server, which again is available for public use outside of squad activities. We currently run DCS World on the server, and will be transiting to DCS World 2.0 upon release.
The 159th prides itself on having a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with a good sense of humour. The banter can be merciless at times but we have a good laugh at ourselves. This relaxed attitude is backed up by the desire to fly in a professional manner whilst keeping the sense of fun. This is after all a hobby/game/sim! |
We ask that our pilots have an understanding of the aircraft the Regiment uses, although we all have a learning curve and we are always happy to help each other progress. None of us are experts after all.
Although the 159th is UK based we do have members in Europe, Canada and the USA. Our minimum age for application is 18. |
